Philips TV Android update 2024

Most of Philips’ 2016, 2017 and 2018 Android TVs have been gradually upgraded to Android 8 Oreo starting in November. Some of Philips’ televisions started to switch to Android 9 in the 3rd quarter of 2020 and got a completely renewed user interface. In this article, we both gave information about Android TV and introduced TV models that will switch to Android TV 11.

Android Oreo is arguably the most important software update since Google announced the Android TV project. The new version offers a completely revamped user interface that puts content on the home screen and center. It took more than a year to prepare the software released by Google last fall. “Our first priority is stability,” said Piotr Herod, Smart TV Manager at TP Vision, adding that TV manufacturers need extra time to integrate tuner functions with each new Android version.

Philips Android TV – Android 11 update

Philips is rolling out an Android TV 11 update for a wide range of older TV models released between 2019 and 2020. Despite the fact that models from these years launched with Android TV 9, Philips is skipping 10 and pushing everything straight to 11. Every Android Philips TV released in 2019 and 2020 should receive this software update.

Both Android TV 10 and 11 are pretty basic Android TV updates when it comes to new features, but the 11 upgrade should bring ALLM support in apps, a better keyboard with predictive typing, and broader compatibility for Bluetooth controllers.

The firmware update TPM191E_R.201.000.215.200 has already been deployed to some models, but no timeframe has been given for all compatible TVs to receive the upgrade.
