The freest countries in the World in 2024

Freedom House has published the “level of freedom in the world” report, which is announced every five years. According to the most recent report, Turkey is not free with 32 points out of 100. For Turkey, which was called “not free” in the 2022 report, the better term “partly free” was used in the 2015 and 1995 reports. Turkey’s status in the internet freedom category was described as ‘not free’ with 32 points out of 100.

Published since 1973, Freedom in the World is Freedom House’s is an annual global report that assesses the state of political rights and civil liberties in 209 countries and territories around the world. The report includes annual numerical ratings of various dimensions for each country or region. The ratings considered include the electoral process, political pluralism and participation, the functioning of government, freedom of expression and belief, association and organizational rights, the rule of law and personal autonomy, individual rights.

Freedom status is evaluated annually by a panel of experts and analysts, and finally the ratings are combined to determine whether the country is classified as “Free”, “Partly Free” or “Not Free”. According to the 2022 freedom report, 66 countries were said to be ‘not free’.

Finland, Norway and Sweden took place in the top 3 places with 100 full points. Turkey, on the other hand, was described as ‘not free’ with 32 points, only 3 points above Iraq, which has 29 points. While Turkey and Iraq had the same score in the political rights category, Turkey was 3 points higher than Iraq in the civil rights category. Syria took the last place in the ranking with 1 point. Syria, South Sudan and Tibet took the last place in the ranking with 1 point each. Turkmenistan has 2 points, while North Korea has 3 points. Saudi Arabia has 7 points and Azerbaijan has 9 points. Afghanistan’s score is 10.
