Elden Ring: Nightreign Evolves with New Update and Rotating Boss Fights

With Elden Ring: Nightreign, fans have finally gotten a real co-op roguelite that is also really good. On Steam, the game was not able to build on the huge success of the parent game, but still celebrates a lot of satisfied players. To ensure that you continue to return to the world of Limgrave on a regular basis, FromSoftware wants to expand the game over months and years with updates and new DLCs. One of them has now been released surprisingly and brings new events with it – but you don’t have forever time for them!

But hurry up: Elden Ring Nightreign becomes a live service game

Since May 30, 2025, the co-op roguelite Elden Ring: Nightreign and sends us once again into tough boss fights in the world of Limgrave. In total, you have to defeat eight powerful Nightlords to progress in the game. Once you’ve done that, there’s little else to do so far. But that is about to change, because with the latest update, a crucial new mechanic is making its way into the game.

Since June 19, the event “Everdark Sovereigns” has been running, in which certain Nightlords have to be fought in even more powerful variants. But watch out: Although the event will be integrated into Elden Ring: Nightreign from now on, the individual bosses will change every week. So you don’t have much time to defeat them!

You have to defeat this Sovereign first

The first enhanced Nightlord has arrived: Get ready for Adel, Baron of the Night. Players who have already defeated the original boss will be able to face Adel’s new Everdark Sovereigns form as soon as it appears in the game. But caution is advised, as publisher Bandai Namco warns: “These limited-time versions of the Nightlords are extremely challenging and pose an even greater threat to the Nightfarers with new moves and increased power.”

Those who are victorious in the boss fights are rewarded with so-called sovereign victories – unique tokens that can be exchanged for special relics and other items. If you defeat an enhanced version for the first time, you will even receive additional seals as a bonus. However, you don’t have forever to cut down the first “improved” boss:

Adel will only be available until June 26 at 14:59 CET. After that, he disappears and makes room for the next Nightlord in his “Everdark Sovereigns” form. Sentient Pest and Darkdrift Knight have already been announced as the next bosses, while the remaining four are to follow at a later date.

In addition to the new limited-time boss fights, there are some other new features and updates that you can find in detail here. In our review, Elden Ring: Nightreign was convincing, but also came with some weaknesses. Nevertheless, this shouldn’t necessarily deter you as a Souls fan, especially since the Elden Ring spinoff is not offered at full price, but only costs €39.99. Will you defeat the stronger bosses this weekend or are you still busy with their standard variants?
