Silent Hill f Goes Deep Into Japanese Horror
Silent Hill is on everyone’s lips again thanks to the remake of Part 1. After all, Konami has confirmed that the 1999 classic will be released in a new guise. But while we wait for a release date, the focus is back on Silent Hill f.
This fall, fans can look forward to a spinoff of the series. And if you believe the words of producer Motoi Okamoto, then in a certain respect we are about to return to the roots of the series. Keyword: Japanese horror.
When is Silent Hill coming out?
The release of Silent Hill f is scheduled for September 25, 2025. Unsurprisingly, the horror project is already being advertised. Konami’s “Press Start” event not only offered space for the remake of the PlayStation title to shine.
Motio Okamoto talked about Silent Hill f in a behind-the-scenes segment. Here, Okamoto explains what actually made the Silent Hill games special in the past.
““Silent Hill was a series that combined the essence of Western and Japanese horror,” says the producer, “but as the series progressed, I felt that the essence of Japanese horror had been lost. I started to feel the desire to create a Silent Hill that 100 percent captures the essence of Japanese horror.”
““Japanese horror,” the producer continues, “is not only based on the grotesque, but on the coexistence of the beautiful and the terrible. We create this title with the concept of ‘finding beauty in terror’.”
PC Gamer, in comparison, emphasizes the earlier influence of US horror culture. Be it in the form of names, the setting or inspirations like Jacob’s Ladder.
When does Silent Hill f?
For the first time, the setting is not the USA, but a small town in Japan in the 60s. The focus on correspondingly different horror, as described by Okamato, already makes the title unique in the series. Whether this decision will ultimately pay off for the team is a completely different question.
After all, the competition in the horror genre never sleeps. In addition to numerous indie projects that want to inspire you on Steam and Co., GamesRadar mentions Cronos: The New Dawn, developed by Bloober Team. Quite ironic, considering that Bloober is responsible for both the upcoming remake of Silent Hill and the popular remake of the second part.
