Gokhan Yulsel, the mayor of Kartal, was born on 18 June 1987 in Kartal, Istanbul. Gokhan Yuksel is a member of Republican People’s Party, and a social democrat politician.
Yuksel graduated from Kartal Ergenekon Primary and Secondary School, and Private Science High School of Marmara Education Schools. He received a Bachelor of Economy from Celal Bayar University in Manisa, and a Master of Capital Markets and Stock Exchange from Marmara University. He is studying for a Doctorate of Economy from Aston University.
In 2014, Yuksel was elected the member of the Municipality Council of Kartal. He served on the Social Aid Commission, City Council, the Municipality Council of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. He served as the deputy mayor of Kartal from 2016 to 2018.
In September 2019, Yuksel announced his candidacy for Kartal, entering a crowded field of candidates vying for the Republican People’s Party nomination. He announced as the candidate of Republican People’s Party for Kartal on 27 January. Gokhan Yuksel ran to become the mayor of Kartal and was elected with 51% of the vote.
