The Texas Chain Saw Massacre review

Tobe Hooper’s shocking 1974 film “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre” gained an important place in the horror film industry. With the video game of the same name, publisher Gun Interactive and developer Sumo Digital made the Slaughter family the stars of the show. With this review we take a detailed look at The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, an online multiplayer game in which a group of players attempt to hunt and kill their four victims.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre review

1974’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a turning point for horror movies. A bold, uncompromisingly brutal and downright frightening film unlike any other. Bringing those same qualities to a video game adaptation would be crucial, which is exactly what Gun Media and Sumo Nottingham have done. Texas Chain Saw Massacre is as tense as the classic movie, but also satisfyingly constructed.

All the characters in the play are in this mess to help their friend Ana Flores. Ana’s sister, Maria, is a student photographer who went missing in Muerto County. So, the camera we see the Hitchhiker use in the original movie is Maria’s camera, and the campsite in the movie is further proof that this new cast is there.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre gameplay

The design of the game is four victims against three members of the family. And Leatherface, whose chainsaw gives him the unique ability to bypass various obstacles on the map, should be present in every match.

A team of five Slaughter family members make up the cast, including five victims and two newly created characters who fit right into the world. While those playing the family have class-based villains to choose from, the victims are more closely aligned in performance, save for a special ability that each uniquely possess and the starting stats that make up their diverse but customizable builds.

While the victims start out impaled on meat hooks in the basement, the goal of the game is simple and exciting: Get out of there. This involves first climbing up the hook, then unlocking an escape route, then traversing a labyrinthine and dangerous outdoor section while being hunted on whichever of the game’s three maps they’re on. Needless to say, survival is never easy.

Leatherface always starts with the victims in the basement, so each round starts off chaotically fast, and when you hear that chainsaw revving, it’s like no other in horror, regardless of the setting. It’s enough to trigger someone’s fight or flight response.

You can use the power of nature in the game. Shrubs, wildflowers and even water can be your salvation. Meanwhile, the metal doors and generators remind us of the slaughterhouse discussion in Hooper’s opening scene. Often, the only thing standing between you and the open field is a locked gate.
